I just realized I never FORMALLY announced my new business on my blog.

Back in July, I casually mentioned on social media that I was starting a cookie business. That was such a mild way of putting what we have actually created with The Cookie Society. Yes, we sell cookies but they aren’t just any cookies, they are LARGE, gourmet cookies, in absolutely unreal flavors, with crispy edges and a soft and chewy center. We ship them nationwide on Mondays and Tuesdays and they show up on your doorstep just as fresh as when they left the kitchen.

The Cookie Society has already shipped over 3000 cookies and we are anticipating a VERY busy holiday season!

I often get asked, “Why did you decide to start a cookie business?” I LOVE making cookies and developing cookie recipes. After I had J, I was in the kitchen baking CONSTANTLY. Jeff was taking cookies up to the locker room weekly and I just couldn’t stop. He attempted an intervention because the amount of butter I was purchasing was a little ridiculous.

At the end of his gentle scolding, he flippantly tossed out there, “you should start charging for these…” I slowed down on the butter splurges but my wheels started turning.

“Could I actually charge for these?” “Would I still love making cookies if I turned it into a business?”

After those questions, came the more practical ones. Our kids were still home with me full time and I knew NOTHING about artisanal food businesses.

It wasn’t till the end of our first Whole30, that I garnered the courage to just go for it. My husband was behind the idea 100% and we just slowly started chipping away at the dream.

I now had permission to buy all the butter necessary in the name of OFFICIAL recipe development. I gained a good 10 or 12 pounds in the process, as did some of our friends, and the house never not smelled like fresh baked cookies.

The doubt and fear of failure was strong, even before I officially got started. To be honest, it’s still there Every. Single. Day. I just didn’t want the regret of never going for it.

To make things a little more interesting, we decided to move to Dallas in June. It has been one of the single best decision we ever made, but more on that later! That move allowed a little more doubt to creep in because I felt a lot of my readers and supporters were in Houston. Who was going to buy my cookies now?!

After we got settled in Dallas, I started applying for licenses, looking for a commercial kitchen and trying to come up with a solid business plan.

These days, I spend much LESS time in the kitchen baking and much MORE time in front of the computer or on the phone with shipping companies. The kids are in school, my house is often untidy and The Cookie Society boxes, bags, tape, postcards, business cards, and labels are visible in almost every corner of the house. I rely HEAVILY on family for help in the kitchen and with the kids.

Mom guilt likes to make the occasional appearance and I am still not sure if I am doing this right. Despite all of that, I still show up EVERY DAY for my dream. I have affirmations posted all over my office just willing me to not give up.

I appreciate every single person who encouraged me to just go for it. I also appreciate every single person that has ordered cookies from the random blogger on the internet!
