For the rest of the trip, we took a trip down memory lane and Jeff told me stories about all his favorite Chicago places. First up, Valois Cafeteria located in Hyde Park. For those who haven’t made it there, It was President Obama’s favorite breakfast place while he was just a senator. It’s a VERY efficient family run business that has been around for ages. Jeff would stop here every morning before school.

It’s a true cafeteria, You walk in and have about 3 1/2 minutes to decide what you want and then they are demanding your order. There is all this commotion in the background as mounds of hash browns are being fried and eggs being scrambled.

As you move down the line they offer you toast, orange juice and coffee. At the end of the line you pay and take your own seat. All of the food is reasonably priced and you get a whole lot of it!

_DSC1701Jeff and I both chose omelets and orange juice. As you look around you see old men that look like they eat there every morning, families stopping by after church, and the occasional couple enjoying a lazy Sunday. After Valois, we walked up and down the street looking at his old barber shop and the adorable houses surrounding one of my favorite areas in Chicago.

The dinner spot was my choice and of course I couldn’t leave the city without a Chicago Style Pizza. In my true opinion all the others are overrated. I would like to consider myself a pizza expert and I wouldn’t go anywhere other than Lou Malnati’s.

I am new to this photo blogging thing and I got SO excited about our pizza, we ate it and I forgot to take a picture first. Just imagine perfect golden crust, a smooth tomato sauce, mounds of cheese and fresh sausage and pepperoni. Sorry…

We can’t help but indulge when we get to Chicago. So far we have had, a “diner- style” breakfast, Pizza, Harold’s chicken, and we finished off the trip with a new experience– Korean BBQ. It was a special occasion too, we got the opportunity to meet up with some of our close friends, Christina, TC, and their gorgeous daughter Victoria.

The name of the restaurant is Gyu Kaku and you get the chance to prepare your own meal. There is a small circular gas grill in the middle of each table and after she rattled off the cooking times for each meat, you were on your own. We decided to be adventurous and tried just about everything on the menu. It was AMAZINGGGG!

_DSC1757 _DSC1754We had everything from filet mignon, filets, lamb chops, duck breast, to corn, sweet potatoes, and SMORES!

Love Y’all,

Marissa
