My daughter and I have a special game day routine that involves doughnuts. We start out morning with a round of doughnut; sprinkles for her and a glazed for me. In an effort to improve out sugary habit I thought I would jump on the baked doughnut train; starting with these Churro Doughnuts. It involves a doughnut pan and comes together as easy as pancake batter!

Did you ever think you would discover something so heavenly as a churro doughnut?

Churro Doughnuts

First things first, you’re going to need a doughnut pan.

Well I’m here to rock your world with this one. I made a few swaps to make the recipe a little healthier but not alter the taste. They are soft, sweet, warm, and coated in sugar and cinnamon. I used apple sauce for a portion of the butter, and decreased the amount of sugar in the batter considering we are rolling them in sugar at the end. If you like jitters (i’m kidding) just add 1 more tbsp of sugar and if you don’t have applesauce on hand just use another 1/4 C of butter in addition to what’s already listed.

Happy baking!

Disclaimer: they aren’t quite *REAL* deep fried doughnuts. Still ridiculously good but a little less sugary, with a light cake-like inside, covered with cinnamon sugar. You have to try them!
