6 Months Till the Wedding!

So I logged onto my wedding website today and this banner flashed across the screen reminding me of the fact that our wedding is 6 months away! After overcoming that shocker, I scroll down and there is this 161 item checklist reminding me of all the thing I haven’t done. Now usually this would bother me but instead, I am chose to ignore the list and remind myself this is all for a 6 hour evening.  The most important part of the evening is planned: I have a wonderful groom, a trusted pastor, and a set of vows.

Now I will discuss the things I have actually gotten done. My wedding website is live! It’s http://www.weddingwire.com/allenholden . There is a fun section on how we met, 10 facts about each other, and a page introducing our bridal party. Extensive research went into avoiding a cheesy wedding website. I tried to keep it light and informative. This is going to serve as a one stop shop for everything you could possibly need for our wedding including: hotel accommodations, maps to the venue, suggested activities around Dallas, and direct links to the registries.  Make sure to sign the guestbook if you stop by!

Speaking of registries, at first I was so excited to get the scanner and go to town in my favorite stores but it’s definitely not that easy. My soon to be sis-in-law accompanied me to Pottery Barn and after answering a few basic questions the “registry concierge” handed us a scanner gun just let us go. We listlessly wandered around for about 20 minutes before we knew what we were doing. After registering for a set of everyday plates, wine glasses, coffee cups, and a few serving dishes, we get approached by a sales associate who commends us for our bravery. At this point I was confused because it doesn’t take much bravery to make a wish list of all your favorite things. He started to elaborate and explained to us how registering around the holidays is risky because items go on sale, are seasonal, or get phased out around this time of year. Too bad we were 38 items down the list when he caught up to us. Oh well, I will just have to monitor the list closely and see what happens.

The most pressing matters I need to handle in the upcoming weeks is selecting a suitable DJ and videographer. We didn’t think a band would fit our style so we are looking for a cool DJ. The DJ needs to be smooth, professional, and not at all gimmicky. I don’t want them to bring props or make my bridesmaids uncomfortable. 6 months ago, we started a document listing songs we would like played at our wedding and have accrued a pretty decent selection hoping we could avoid that moment the DJ plays a song and everyone departs the dance floor. When I first started planning I had actually elected NOT to have a videographer.  This was until every person I met in the last six months told me it’s either their biggest regret [not having one] or the part of their wedding they would go back and change. My family never really had a lot of home videos so I didn’t think I would be interested but since you only do this once…

In the art of sharing the whole experience, here are a few photos from the process thus far.
